Twice as many black pupils on free meals

More than twice as many black pupils than white pupils are claiming free school meals in England, new statistics show. A total of 36.3 per cent of black children are receiving the benefit, compared with just 15 per cent of white pupils. Government figures released last week show Travellers of Irish heritage are most likely to claim free school meals, at 61 per cent.
