Two Diana Awards

7th May 2010 at 01:00

Diana Awards recognise young people who work to improve the lives of others, and two were presented to Glasgow pupils last week. Keenan Alexander, 16, a pupil at Smithycroft Secondary is a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament who seeks out the views of young people, represents them on different forums, has held joint surgeries with the local MSP and is involved in links with Malawi. He also provides lunches for the elderly and assists in local youth clubs. Amanda McGunnigle, 16, of Bannerman High, has dedicated over 250 hours in four years to volunteering in her community. Through work with a local youth group, she has implemented a database to assist in the recognition of young people who attend and signpost them to relevant services and activities. She also chairs the South Lanarkshire Youth Council.
