UCAC picks president

Welsh-medium teaching union UCAC has picked an English teacher as its president for 201011. Linden Evans, deputy head of the English department at Welsh-medium school Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr in Swansea, was sworn in during the union's annual conference in Caernarfon. Mr Evans vowed to ensure that Welsh pupils were not disadvantaged compared to those in England and that schools were adequately funded so they could improve standards. He also promised to fight to secure the status of the Welsh language in education.
