Patrick Duignan, the chair of educational leadership at the Australian Catholic University, showed his Irish roots and love of a good tune when he finished his address to the Scottish Executive's International Summer School on Leadership with a singalong, the song being "You raise me up", by Secret Garden.

Chairing the session was Bernard McLeary, chief executive of Learning and Teaching Scotland, who suggested afterwards to fellow delegates that perhaps they could suggest a suitable anthem for LTS. Better than a lament, we suppose.
