Vacuum in Labour's borough

23rd October 1998 at 01:00
In "Managers blamed for poor standards" (TES, October 9) you say that between 1994 and 1997 Tower Hamlets Council was run by the Liberal Democrats, and that there was a "planning and policy vacuum".

Between 1994 and 1997 the council was, in fact, Labour controlled and still is. Otherwise, the story was accurate, and a proper and balanced assessment of a lengthy tome and associated complicated issues. Thank you for treating the report on our borough by the Office for Standards in Education with the seriousness and candour it deserved.

Peter Davies Head of Media and Public Relations Tower Hamlets Town Hall, Mulberry Place, 5 Clove Crescent, London E14
