Vanilla Vanilla Vanilla by Selima Hill

The car is full of hens.

It's Friday night.

My only comfort is the word 'vanilla'.

I say it again and again till I fall asleep.

I'm the only child on Earth who is not allowed ice-cream.

Selima Hill is the poet in residence at the Poetry Library on the South Bank. Her latest collection, 'Violet' was shortlisted for the TS Eliot, Forward and Whitbread prizes
