VSO: what's on offer

10th January 2003 at 00:00
Teachers are much in demand with the VSO and you could be working in another country two months to a year after your application. Placements range from classroom teachers to policy jobs with ministries of education. Most posts for experienced teachers are in teacher training roles. Teachers on these placements gain wide experience and responsibility that would be much more difficult to get at an early stage of your career in the UK.

Volunteers get extensive training, air fares, housing, living allowance and grants for equipment, at mid-term and at completion of their placement.

Volunteers say you need to be adaptable, patient, independent and willing to sit and listen.
