Wage inflation

15th December 2000 at 00:00
OPEN government award for December goes to Sir Michael Bichard - head honcho at the DFEE - for writing to The TES (Letters, 16) to explain that he'll earn between pound;140,000 and pound;150,000 this year. Rather more illuminatng than his department which last week divulged that his salary was "in the range of" pound;101,254 to pound;173,808. If wishes were pounds, the Diary would be happy to earn just the difference between the two sums.
