Watson wins convener's chair;In brief

Norma Anne Watson, the head of Kirkhill nursery in Broxburn, West Lothian, has scraped home as education convener of the Educational Institute of Scotland. She succeeds George MacBride, who failed to be re-elected to the union's executive council. Mrs Watson is convener of the General Teaching Council and a past EIS president. She beat off a strong challenge from Sonia Kordiak, secretary of the EIS Midlothian association, by 35 votes to 32.
