Life is more straightforward in the Professional Association of Teachers. Its Scottish conference was cancelled for lack of interest.

Bob Christie, the association's secretary, had described the proposed speakers as "weel kent". Charles Kennedy, Liberal Democrat MP, Pamela Munn, expert on discipline, and Cameron Munro, expert on attendance and absence, are either not well known enough, or it was a case of "I kent their faithers".
