What I'm reading

4th June 2010 at 01:00

A man who spent most of his life in penitentiaries for armed robbery and murder wrote my current read. No Beast So Fierce is Edward Bunker's semi-autobiographical novel about the struggles of going straight. This is one of the most brutal and razor-sharp novels I have read, and his hypothetical job-seeking letter is a masterpiece of tragic comedy. A love story in the most acerbic sense.

Conrad Watts is an English teacher in Guildford, Surrey.
