What pay rise?

9th May 2003 at 01:00
I am surely not the only member of the profession to have felt disappointment with my salary advice slip this month.

My gross monthly salary had increased by pound;112.25 (not bad, I hear the less well paid cry!). But this is set against an income tax rise of pound;63.60, a National Insurance payment which has gone up by pound;40.13, a rise in superannuation of pound;8.72 and the extra pound;13.07 cost of my additional voluntary contribution. So I am now pound;13.27 a month worse off than before!

Some pay rise! It's a disgrace.
