Those little asides and afterthoughts often say most. So, what are we to make of Peter Pendle's remarks at the official opening of the Association for College Management's spanking new offices in Market Harborough last Friday?
He pointed out how the union had grown in its 20-year history. Its first HQ had been the back room of the previous chief executive's home.
"Membership has gone up by 25 per cent this year and includes more than half of all college principals," he said. "We represent managers at colleges - and other parts of the learning and skills sector."
Other parts? Not just colleges? Will we see a name change to reflect this, akin to SHA becoming the Association for School and College Leadership? Are we about to see new recruitment wars? "No," says Peter. "We are very close to SHA. And we are talking to the NAHT."
So, if it is peace and prosperity for all among the TUC-affiliated unions, why did SHA change its name?
