We noted that Brian Monteith, the Tories' energetic voice on education and much else besides, was complaining about the failure of Edinburgh and East Dunbartonshire to lift their ban on beef in school dining halls.

Edinburgh has relented. But East Dunbartonshire? Is this enemy of British produce not now run by a coalition of Tories and Liberal Democrats?
