Sir William Stubbs has been re-appointed chairman of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority for a further three years. Sir William was originally appointed in 1997 and his current term will run from October this year to September 30, 2003.
The House of Commons education sub-committee has elected Barry Sheerman, Labour MP for Huddersfield, as its new chairman. Mr Sheerman succeeds Malcolm Wicks who is now lifelong learning minister. Labour MP for Worcester Michael Foster and Stephen O'Brien, the Conservative MP for Eddisbury, were also appointed to the committee.
Vivian Cutler has been appointed assistant director for the curriculum and community group in Cmden, north London. Ms Cutler, who has been head at Highbury Grove school, Islington, for nearly six years, will be responsible for the inspection and advisory service, nursery education and childcare, the youth service, training and media services.
Robin Fugill has been appointed headteacher of Selby High school, North Yorkshire. He succeeds Dr David Squires who has retired because of ill health. Mr Fugill is a graduate of Hull University and has been teaching for 20 years in middle and secondary schools.
Katy Donnelly is Lewisham's new deputy for lifelong learning. She will oversee the strategic management of the south London borough's 92 schools.
