Why was Rudolf's nose so red?

6th December 2002 at 00:00
RUDOLF the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose. But, says the Royal Society of Chemistry, there is likely to be a sound scientific explanation for this physical anomaly. It is running a competition asking pupils to submit hypothetical explanations for Rudolf's facial disfigurement. Send entries to Claire McLoughlin, The Royal Society of Chemistry, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1J 0BA by December 13. Winners will be awarded a prize.
