You'll be bowled over by Wondrous Oblivion, Paul Morrison's funny and uplifting coming-of-age drama, set between the Cold War of the 1950s and the cultural and sexual revolution of the 1960s. It tells the tale of David (Sam Smith), an 11-year-old Jewish boy whose enthusiasm for cricket is matched only by his ineptitude with bat and ball. When a black family moves in next door, the scene is set for a literal and metaphorical crossing of boundaries as Sam ignores the prejudice of his parents and neighbours to join the father, Dennis (Delroy Lindo), in his back garden practice nets, and find out just what he is capable of.
The film, based on the novel, also by Paul Morrison, was recently released to rent or buy on DVD by Momentum Pictures, and The TES has four sets of DVD and novel to give away. For a chance of winning one, just send your name and address by email or post to the address on the right, quoting Wondrous Oblivion offer. The first four names out of the hat on October 14 will win.
