Winchester fires chaplains

Two chaplains at Winchester College have been sacked amid claims they blew the whistle on alleged fee-fixing.

The Rev Robert Ferguson and his deputy, the Rev Nicholas von Malaise, were dismissed two weeks before the start of term. The Office of Fair Trading launched an investigation into Winchester and three other private schools last year over allegations that they colluded to fix fees.

The inquiry has since been widened to include 60 schools. The chaplains appear to have been sacked for speaking out about the matter.
