Wizard with maths

Software got friendlier when wizards materialised on computers.

Unlike the irascible old men in pointy hats, modern magicians lead young children gently through complex realms.

The new software from BlackCat, Numeracy Activity Builder, uses a wizard to guide teachers step-by-step through creating interactive whiteboard activities for early years and 5-14 classes. The product is the second in a series, following the success of Literacy Activity Builder.

"Teachers simply add their own content to one of nine activity templates and the program automatically generates lesson activities with a professional finish," says BlackCat, which is now part of Granada Learning.

Activities include matching, sorting, time, money, fractions, decimals and percentages.

Activities can be shared across a school, allowing colleagues to adapt and reuse resources, while the look and feel can be altered to suit ages and abilities, through different fonts, backgrounds, clip art and even languages.
