Woe is January's child

11th August 2000 at 01:00
THE Scottish Parent Teacher Council is demanding that parents of children born in January and February should have an automatic right to ask for deferred entry and receive a free pre-school place without challenge.

It accepts that schools need to talk to parens in detail about the options, the extent of current support in P1 and the nature of learning and teaching in infant classes.

It is also accepted that costs could rise by up to pound;3 million nationally if an extra 2,000 children were on deferred entry.
