Write 2

25th September 1998 at 01:00
Write Away is a competition for pupils aged seven to 11. It is a chance for juniors to find an audience for their writing, to explore new styles and voices - and to win cash prizes.

Autobiographical writing features in the National Literacy Strategy - there is potential for it in each year: letters, stories that raise issues, myths, legends and tales from different cultures. It also has a specific focus in Year 6. The learning suggestions here can be used for the literacy hour, or in other ways.

Shared reading and discussion of texts is appropriate for the literacy hour, as are planning, drafting and group drama. Longer periods will be needed for the full writing process. The National Literacy Strategy suggests extended writing should take place outside the literacy hour. Entry form on page 38
