The language of west central Scotland can be disguised but never purged. Witness a letter about literacy (of all things) from Margaret Nelson, a community education worker in West Dunbartonshire.

Nelson heads it "Essential learning skills" and explains: "I have deliberately addressed you as 'Dear reader' at the top of this letter as so many of use take this skill for granted." Aye, hen.
