The glamour, the fame the thrill” of James Bond inspired 13-year-old William Kerley of the Maharishi School, Lancashire; Helen Hurley of Monks Walk School, Hertfordshire, was 15 when she wrote “For River”: “carrying her children to her sea in firm embrace”.

William and Helen are among 27 contributors in ‘The TES Book of Young Poets’, just published to celebrate a selection of poems that have appeared in the TES Young Poet of the Week column (on page 2 of ‘Friday magazine’ each week). As well as the poems chosen by ‘TES’ arts editor Heather Neill and a commentary on each one by ‘TES’ guest poets such as Michael Rosen, Matthew Sweeney and Kit Wright, the book contains colour illustrations by Andrew Moss, interviews with the poets and an introduction by Poetry Society education officer Sian Hughes. The book costs pound;9.99, and an accompanying set of four posters pound;3.99. Order from The TES Bookshop, tel: 01454 617370; fax: 01454 618263
