The TESS is delighted to announce that Scottish schools are being invited to submit entries for the TES Schools Awards, making it the only UK-wide event of its kind.

The “TESSAs”, which were inaugurated last year for England and Wales only, celebrate and reward teams which make an outstanding contribution to primary and secondary schools - and, new this year, to special schools.

The 15 categories allow schools to promote the high quality of the work they do across a broad range of areas, from outstanding community involvement and ICT learning to outstanding school dinners and sporting initiatives.

Neil Munro, editor of The TESS, said: “We see this new initiative as being in tune with how schools operate. Teachers do not work or achieve in isolation, and we recognise this by putting the emphasis very much on excellence in teamwork.

“The awards, therefore, complement the existing Scottish Education Awards and they allow schools here the opportunity to shine in the company of schools from throughout the UK, not just those in Scotland.”

A judging panel is being assembled and will be announced later. Judges last year included distinguished figures such as Dame Kelly Holmes and Sir Tim Brighouse.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London on June 17, 2010. The deadline for entries is February 5. Further details and information on how to enter can be found at www.tes.co.ukawards.
