The key stage 2 maths test, especially test A, was much more difficult than previous pilots and has angered teachers and distressed children. The teachers at my school are sending a detailed complaint to the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority and I would urge others who feel as strongly as we do to do the same.

I could write at length about the difficulty and obscurity of the test, but all who have seen it will know the reasons for my complaints. The victims are our pupils who were demoralised and humiliated.

I was a supporter of testing, but would now be most unwilling to repeat the experience, unless I am assured of future tests being educationally sound and that both teachers and pupils have a fair chance to show the levels of their work.
