A secondary school in the wealthy city-state is using mobile phone text messages to alert parents if their children don’t show up. Tracking parents down at work or home used to be time-consuming, said Tan Teck Hok, Yishun Town school principal. “Now if your child is absent and you have a hand phone, you will receive a message by 10am,” Tan said, adding that more than 70 per cent of the teenagers’ parents have mobile phones.
