The Poetry Society launched its nationwide programme of poetry rescue last October, with 40 poets going into schools to help teachers overcome worries about teaching poetry and enthuse them through workshops, in-service training and resources.
The poetryclass programme already offers poetry events in many areas of the country from Manchester to Dorset, from Liverpool to Norfolk as well as a strong presence on the Poetry Society website www.poetrysoc.cm Visitors to the website can find books for primary and secondary literacy, lesson plans, exercises, a glossary of poetic terms and online children’s writing community and teachers’ centre.
Now new teachers will be able to try out the poetryclass inspiration. Poet Ann Sansom will present a one-day training for PGCE students and their mentor teachers on March 26 at Exeter University.
Six weeks later, participants will meet again with Ann Sansom to evaluate the ideas and methods learned in the workshop. More information can be obtained from Jean Sprackland, tel: 020 7420 9889.
