Those who know

I was pleased to hear Jeremy Hanley say at the weekend that only MPs could judge the behaviour of other MPs "because they had the experience of the workings of Westminster". I presume that his statement was the precursor of the next Government initiative - to abolish the Office for Standards in Education.

Only a handful of its inspectors have ever had to manage a school.
