Thousands of Radio 4 listeners give respect to teachers

TEACHERS are among the most respected professionals in the country with only doctors and nurses ranking higher in public esteem, according to a poll of listeners to Radio 4‘s Today programme.

At least 5,786 of the 6,722 people who took part in the survey said teaching was one of the three professions they respected most, far more than being a fireman or policeman. The least respected professionals were MPs, estate agents, lawyers and journalists.
