Three Birmingham colleges have announced a partnership deal to plan further education in the city. The link between South Birmingham College, Sutton Coldfield College and the Birmingham College of Food is the latest in a series of partnership ventures in cities across England.

Ministers are known to want competition between colleges to be reduced. FEFC officials have already moved to encourage closer links between city colleges.

The Birmingham deal involves working on planning, staff development and a new joint operations organisation.
