Proposed changes to the school year have been the subject of heated debate.

One suggested: “MPs should set an example and reduce their summer recess from three months to four weeks.” Many agreed. One said: “Politicians love to whinge about the long school summer holidays, a throwback to harvesting days. But their recess stems from travelling to their constituencies on horseback.”
