Thumbs-up for first free school

Education Secretary Michael Gove has given the thumbs-up for the first free school in England to open its gates in September. The West London Free School in Ealing - started by a consortium of parents led by journalist and author Toby Young - had its funding agreement signed off by Mr Gove last week. According to Mr Young, the school has had 445 applications for just 120 places; places will be allocated via proximity and lottery.
