Surrey primary pupils have been benefiting from a language initiative developed by the local council and the Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maitres, a teacher training college in Germain-en-Laye, near Paris.

Through this scheme, four French teacher trainees spend several weeks working in Surrey schools contributing to French lessons and opening pupils’ eyes to French life and culture.

On the teachers’ return to work in schools near Val d’Oise, Surrey’s partner area, the link continues with pupils working together on curriculum-based projects ranging from food to what stories they enjoy.

Details are available from: Richard White, Surrey County Council, tel: 01932 569663.
