A former English teacher at Largs Academy has been removed from the teaching register following a disciplinary hearing. Ian Wark, aged 30, was dismissed by North Ayrshire Council in October 2004 for gross misconduct over claims that he had an inappropriate relationship with a sixth-year pupil. It was claimed that he sent and received emails and text messages, entertained the girl at his flat until the early hours and exchanged gifts with her.

Last June, Mr Wark took his case to an employment tribunal claiming that he had been unfairly dismissed and that he should be compensated. The tribunal has still to deliver its judgment. The General Teaching Council for Scotland said that Mr Wark was “guilty of relevant misconduct”. He did not appeal against the decision.
