Colleges have been issued with guidance by the Scottish Further Education Funding Council so they can meet their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act. The legislation is being implemented gradually between this month and September 2005 to ensure that disabled students are not unfairly treated.
The Executive has already allocated an extra pound;20 million in this academic year for infrastructure and equipment, including funds to improve provision for the disabled.
