Toon in next week

The Wombles turn political activists this week in an animation festival designed to highlight children's rights. For two weeks, 160 films will be screened in the Animated Exeter event, which will feature a Unesco-sponsored collaboration about children's rights and freedoms as its centrepiece.

Professor Joan Ashworth, head of animation at the Royal College of Art, said: "This brings home the reasons and importance of children's rights, and the responsibilities adults have to make them a reality."

More traditional fare from Huxley Pig and Paddington Bear will also feature alongside the Wombles at an exhibition in Honiton.

* Animated Exeter runs until February 24
