Higher education institutions are to receive a 2.8 per cent increase in funding for next year, bringing the total to pound;616 million. The universities have criticised

the Scottish Higher Educaton Funding Council for top-slicing money from their allocations,

with pound;12.3 million held back to support “strategic change” and pound;11 million earmarked for widening student access.
