Top union job goes to woman

THE National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers has appointed Chris Keates as deputy general secretary - the first woman to hold such a senior post in th union. The promotion of Ms Keates, 49, the NASUWT's assistant secretary since 1997, follows Eamonn O'Kane's appointment as NASUWT general secretary designate.
