Tories to let pupils drop history at 13

Thirteen-year-olds should be given the choice of ditching traditional academic study in favour of vocational courses, the Conservatives said this week. Under a Tory government, pupils would study English, maths and science up to the age of 16, but would be able to drop subjects such as history, geography and modern foreign languages. New technical schools which would specialise in vocational education would be set up.
