INDEPENDENT schools criticised a Tory plan to revive the Assisted Places Scheme through state subsidies for children with special talents, saying they want a scheme that covers all abilities. Under the Conservative Sponsore Access Plan, pupils who are academically able or have special sporting, technological or artistic talents, would receive funding equivalent to a state school place to enable them to attend an independent school.
