The screen academy with be a first for Scotland and one of only seven in the UK. It is a joint initiative between Napier University and Edinburgh College of Art and will form part of the Skillset Screen Academy Network - a UK-wide group of centres of excellence in film education and training.

The B-listed Craiglockart building was once a hospital for officers recovering from shell shock during the First World War and included the war poets Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon among its patients.
