Northern Rail has launched a new music project, NorthernTraX, in association with EMI. The project aims to reduce deaths and injury caused by rail trespass and hopes to reinforce railway safety among young people. NorthernTraX gives users the chance to record their own music and upload it onto the NorthernTrax website, as well as downloading music from other bands. One of the attractions of NorthernTraX is the chance for young performers to have their music voted for online by the public, with the best acts winning prizes, including having their music professionally recorded. NorthernTraX already has more than 50 tracks uploaded and 2,000 visitors daily. The site includes an online magazine, album reviews, features, a photo gallery as well as rail safety information messages.
