Michael Heseltine, the Deputy Prime Minister, has asked the Cabinet Office competitiveness unit to carry out an audit of education, training and skills in Britain’s work force, especially 16 to 18-year-olds, and compare them with overseas countries, following criticisms of standards among young employees from top industrialists .
