While it is the Government’s objective that the majority of new lecturers gain qualified teacher learning and skills status, there will be a variety of training routes open to teachers, trainers and tutors. This will start with a small initial teaching award but provide the opportunity to progress to full QTLS. Lifelong Learning UK is currently developing the qualifications framework for teachers, trainers and tutors and will be providing detailed guidance on its component pathways and qualifications this autumn.
As the Institute for Learning will be responsible for awarding QTLS, it is appropriate that it be considered the professional body for teachers in post-compulsory education across the learning and skills sector. Through the IfL, teachers have more opportunity to seek training and development and greater professional recognition.
