The report “First Step: Sum may find it hard” (TES Magazine, July 3) contained some inaccuracies about the requirements for entering teacher training. You do not always need “an undergraduate qualification” (if by that, you mean a degree) to enter teaching training - although a degree is required to enter postgraduate teacher training, and to enter the profession.

A-levels are not always required for entry to undergraduate teacher training either.

A standard equivalent to GCSE in English, mathematics and science at grade C or above is required if you are studying to be a primary school teacher. But secondary school teachers require only maths and English at that level.
