The take-up of Modern Apprenticeships has trebled in a year, but the numbers starting Youth Training Schemes has fallen by 7 per cent.

Department for Education and Employment statistics show the last three months’ recruitment on YT schemes is down 17 per cent. However, 64 per cent of people leaving YT schemes got a job within six months, up from 59 per cent a year ago.

The number starting Training for Work schemes also rose slightly, but the number of trainees fell by more than half in the year to March.
