However much individual tourists may try to “take only photographs and leave only footprints”, natural habitats all over the world have been damaged or even destroyed by tourism.

Tourism Concern, which promotes sustainable development and awareness of the effects of tourism, has produced this resource pack for A-level geography and GNVQ leisure and tourism students.

It aims to foster a questioning approach to statistical and advertising material and includes case studies of areas where “responsible tourism” has been introduced. These are: a community partnership in the north Pennines; Goa; Barbados; Turkey’s southern coasts; and the Amboseli area in Kenya.
