A Dalziel High bright spark produced an unexpected answer in a maths level E national test. Work it out yourself.

Question: Trees and bushes are planted round the outside of a site.

2 trees have 3 bushes between them.

3 trees have 6 bushes between them.

4 trees have 9 bushes between them.

Find a rule connecting the number of bushes and the number of trees.

Answer, according to one Motherwell youngster: “The rule is, for trees it goes up one more, for bushes it’s the tree timetable.”
