TAG Theatre Company is collaborating with the National Theatre of Scotland to stage a large-scale production of The Crucible, by Arthur Miller.

The play will tour to Livingston, Cumbernauld, Findhorn, St Andrews and Irvine in April and May. At each location it will be performed by school students, teachers, community and professional actors as the climax of a seven-month collaboration.

TAG was working on a pioneering residency last month with Dalbeattie High, in Dumfries and Galloway, funded by Create. The normal school timetable was abandoned for a week to allow every student the chance to participate in an all-day workshop led by a member of the TAG team, exploring a variety of texts, including Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet.

Teachers attended a professional development session on how drama can be used to enhance the literacy curriculum.

The residency marks the beginning of an ongoing partnership between TAG and Dalbeattie High. The two are now working with a local amateur dramatics company on a production of Durenmatt’s The Visit, to be performed next month.
