An animation film, called The Inedibles, created by P6 from St Paul’s Primary in Glenrothes, has won the Youth Screen Project Award 2006 at Discovery, Scotland’s International Film Festival for Children and Young People.
Shortlisted in the same awards was Trippple Trubble Bottled Up, an eco-themed animation film from the pupils of P6 at Dunnikier Primary in Kirkcaldy. It has also been shortlisted for an award in the under-12 category at the 9th Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People at Pyrgos, Greece.
Liz Whatmore, producer of both projects, said she was thrilled. “The benefits to the children involved have been far-reaching. To receive the accolade of being nominated as a finalist at the Olympia International Festival fuels my inspiration for future creative projects.”
At the recent Take a Pride in Fife conference, three pupils from Dunnikier Primary and their headteacher, Craig Mitchell, along with producer Liz Whatmore, described their thoughts and feelings on the making of the film, and stressed the importance of the eco issues involved.
